Chandler Fredendall Heusinkveld and SCOT!!! Welcome back! ( If you ever get a chance to read the blog, tell me if there is 1 " t" or 2.)
Sherri and Clay not well enough to attend. Sara has her hands full with full time job and full time homecare for Jim.
What a creative rehearsal we had!
Warmed up with Benedictus and Kosi Riv'ya
Introduced Cantante Dominus for next year. Its just 2 parts and sounds much harder than it is.
We worked on Om Mani Padre Hum and incorporated the singing bowl into the arrangement. Since the bowl plays D flat, we are moving the song to F minor -- which is one half step up from original key of E minor. ( theory moment: D flat minor is relative minor to F major. C minor is relative minor to E flat major) Chandler is handling the bowl.
Gong occurs during the singing and signals us to move to the next dynamic level. As with meditation, we move from the world, which is a loud place to an inner quieter place then back out to the louder world.
General layout:
Gong
sing the phrase loud, do about 3 times listen for gong to signal
sing phrase medium about 3 times, listen for gong
sing very softly about 3 times, listen for gong
sing medium, listen for gong
sing louder, listen for gong.
Chandler will direct the last 3 notes and Elaine will play one very quiet high tone on the finger bells, for lack of correct term
Taize chant-- reviewed briefly.
