corrected link from prior post and the "One Voice" playlist

So we all have it handy from Elaine's Very Thoughtful email :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc6HloRYZGc&list=PL3bQHkseJt0vNjPJQHz_ExgEHo1P_jmWU&feature=em-share_video_in_list_user

and the one with the lyrics again on its own for which the link in the prior post was not accurate :(

I've corrected the latter in the original post but of course in your email it will still go to the bad place.

Yours truly,
Susy Clay

rehearsal notes 1/26/15

This is pretty disjointed; there was lots of incongruent info and I did it in three different steps due to having forgotten my notes, then only using half of them, then all of them finally :) so bear with lack of organization please!

Please yell re any corrections, etc...

In attendance: Elaine, Sherri, Paula, 2 Susans

Scott was away in VA so he and Sara (sp?) could pick up their new baby!!  ( ___hopefully/knock wood___)

We practiced:
  • Joy to the World (for 2/8) - lyrics will be in service bulletin so cong. can join in, (as they will of course want to)
  • One Voice (for end of year service May/Jun?) - ..............  Check out the video here; Sclay will be making an MP3 of this if anyone would like it (also I just remem'd I've been meaning to make one of our songlist CDs for Scott... one of these days!)
  • Voice Still & Small (grey hymnal #391 - I've added it to our Repertoire Hymns page) - at the moment this is Sop 1 Clay, Sop 2 Sherri, Alto Chandler, Elaine and Paula - up for adjustments as we get closer. Those singing it have agreed to rehearse at least one other part so that we can rearrange if necessary.

Susan Chandler is pretty sure she will be able to sing "Be Ye Lamps" Sunday 2/1. Susan Clay is standing by just in case - either way we'll cover it.

Upcoming schedule as of now…
UUFC Proposed Dates for Choir
Jan   25 Found in Translation 1003 Where  Do We Come  From
Feb 1 Buddhism Be Ye Lamps    184
Feb 8 Conflict Resolution Joy to the World   (Jeremiah was a Bullfrog )
Feb 15 Caring for the Earth Come On People Now Smile on Your Brother OR Somebody’s Gonna Use it After You
  Feb 22 Reinventing Yourself
April 5 Easter Agnus Dei  as trio??
April 19 Savor the World Japanese Bowls  Guest with  Singer Susie Stokes?
April 26 How to Deal with Bad news Go Lifted Up
  Lullaby from Friends Hymnal
May  24 Virtue Tis A Gift to be Simple

Idea: What the world needs now – sometime in the next few months as faux flash mob if possible – for Andi - maybe try to get some people who keep talking about wanting to take part in choir - also it could be a way for those who are new to the cong. and are interested in choir to get in on something and see how they like it...

We asked Elaine if she could post a brief plan on the blog prior to each rehearsal - we want to start trying to cut down on wasted time. This way everyone will have the music handy, can refresh their memories on it before coming in if they want/need, and we can get more done, esp. in these days of our having only 5 people and therefore not being as flexible as we were when we were 8-9 people... Also we'll budget our time carefully at rehearsal and try to stay to a fixed schedule as much as possible.

Also a plan like this will help us get back to our repeatedly-tried goal of always rehearsing a repertoire piece or two each rehearsal, among other things. Elaine will plan for time for new pieces as well as upcoming. Most likely we will just be hitting 4-5 pieces total. (Some of this is from a phone convo with Elaine this morning, in case some of this seems like new news to those who were there last night.)

In view of this everyone is asked please to be on time if at all humanly possible. We will have announcements/share time early on like we used to and then after that dig in - if you miss any info in announcements please be prepared to consult the blog for the rehearsal notes and/or grab someone after rehearsal who is not in a hurry to get home and they can perhaps recap anything you missed.

Of course please warm up in your vehicle if you are late, too.

Last but not at all least:
radio show/spring show early June??
Paula and Jorge will be here for sure end May/first week of Jun so yay plus long enough off hopefully to be able to bring it off without too much rush… might try to recruit some of those who have expressed an interest in the past or who joined us for other things (Heidi etc)

Elaine will send Doodle poll...

Misc.
--Paula will be gone all of Feb. and the first part of March

OK most of the rest of the notes from 1/19 were just our upcoming calendar...

I'm just going to put a few weeks here for now.

2/1 Theme: Buddhism - Susan Chandler will sing "Be Ye Lamps" if she's all well again; Susan Clay will be ready to do it if not

2/8 Theme: Conflict Resolution - we'll sing "Joy to the World" (the rock one not the carol) with the congregation

2/15 Theme: Caring for the Earth - we'll sing "Come on People" and "Somebody's Gonna Use It After You"

Nothing planned for 2/22 as of now and March is undecided.

Please note that we will sing "Agnus Dei" on Easter Sunday (4/5), plus possibly one more song (undecided as of now).

geemony christmas I forgot again - most crucial rehearsal notes from 1/19/15

I really don't know what's wrong with me this week. Oh well.

Will fill you in on the rest tonight!!

This Sunday: blue hymnal #1003 "Where do we come from"
as a "Heart of the mother"-type round

Part one:    1  2  3  4  1  2  3  3  3  3  3
Part two:    1  1  2  3  4  1  2  3  3  3  3
Part three:   1  1  1  2  3  4  1  2  3  3  3
Part four:    1  1  1  1  2  3  4  1  2  3  3

Last time on line three everyone is pianissimo and one person back on line 2 at same time. This time Clay is on Part One and she will be doing line 2 at the end.

Feb. 1, subject is Buddhism so choir contribution will be solo of "Be Ye lamps" - this will be Chandler if back in health and voice, Clay as understudy :)

more soon tonight I really really really intend, anyway…  gah!

January 5 Rehearsal Notes

We cleaned out our folders and identified the following list of songs as ones to work on (i.e. make sure you have sheet music for these):

  • Bright Morning Stars
  • Alleluia
  • O Vos Omnes
  • Get Together
  • Spirit, Open My Heart
  • Benedictus (to keep performance-ready)
  • Pie Jesu
  • Angus Dei
  • Joy To The World
We also talked more about a spring concert program, with time being given to people's "reach" or dream songs that they might sing or that might be good vehicles for others. Bring your ideas for these next week; we've already floated such diverse ideas as the theme song from Once and "Wicked Little Town" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. So nothing is off limits for the brainstorming stage.
