Veni Sancte Spiritus for Sunday

Hoping and praying that there will be some people who bite re the pickup choir.

Susan Clay will practice a few additional descant verses; we decided it would be fun to add some more. Stand by for Sun. a.m. when we'll know which ones came to fruition.

Meeting at 9h45 Sunday.

******************************

Upcoming…
NOTHING. We cannot sing 6/14 after all b/c Elaine has a wedding; we thought about going ahead but "One Voice" needs a fair amount of work still so we'll just bag it.

Possibility of singing something for the Summer Solstice service but pretty iffy.

We will still meet next Monday just for the heck of it.

We will try to get together several times over the summer (wine parties?) to practice repertoire stuff and look at ideas for fall so that when we start back up we're not starting up cold.

Rehearsal Notes April 14 2015

 In attendance:
Chandler  Fredendall Heusinkveld and  SCOT!!!     Welcome back! ( If you ever get a chance to read the blog, tell me if there  is 1 " t" or  2.)

Sherri  and Clay not well enough to attend.  Sara has her hands full with full time job and full time homecare for Jim.

What a creative rehearsal we had!

Warmed up with Benedictus and  Kosi Riv'ya
Introduced Cantante Dominus for next year. Its just 2 parts and sounds much harder than it is.

We worked on Om Mani Padre Hum and incorporated the singing bowl into the arrangement.  Since  the bowl plays D flat,  we are moving  the song to F minor --  which is one half step up from original key of E minor.   ( theory moment:  D flat  minor is relative  minor to F major.  C minor is relative minor to E flat major)     Chandler is handling the bowl.

Gong occurs during the singing and signals us to move to the next dynamic level.  As with meditation, we move from the world, which is a loud place to an inner quieter place then back out to the louder world.

General layout:

Gong
sing the phrase loud, do about 3 times listen for gong to signal
sing phrase medium about 3 times,  listen for gong
sing very softly about 3 times, listen for gong
sing medium, listen for gong
sing louder, listen for gong.

Chandler will direct the last 3 notes and Elaine will play one very quiet high tone on the finger bells, for lack of correct term

Taize chant-- reviewed briefly.

Rehearsal notes 3/30/15

In attendance:
Elaine
Paula
2 Susans

We rehearsed "Agnus Dei" almost the entire time. It is coming together pretty nicely; send us good vibes Sunday.

Susan and Susan will join Paula and Jorge at the beginning of service also for "Morning has Broken."

Sherri was under the weather with allergies and back problems - please send her muscle-relaxant and/or antihistamine thoughts.

Please review current repertoire items on your own if at all possible

We might be able to plug

"Kosi R'vaya" and
"Give Light"

into an upcoming service somewhere. Please consider these current review-worthy repertoire pieces. Please review them as much as possible on your own between/before rehearsals for the next couple months.

Rehearsal Notes 3/23/15 and upcoming dates

In attendance:
Elaine
Paula
2 Susans

Scott hopes to be coming back (capital C capital B) in April; things are calming/meshing with the littlest Jaeschke and scheduling and... :)

Sherri is allergied :(

We hope Sara will be able to join us again soon at least semi-regularly. Prayers and vibes for her as Jim is in assisted living now and we know that must be very very hard.

So... (For dates not listed here there is no proposed choir involvement.)
  • 3/29 - no choir after all
  • 4/5 (Easter) - Elaine, Chandler and Clay will sing "Agnus Dei" with the wondrous accompaniment of Paula on piano. This group is firm; no more adjustments, period.
  • added... 4/26 per Elaine's email from Susan Watson - think about doing "Om Mani Padme Hum"  for the Buddhist service?
  • 5/3 - maybe? please let Elaine know if you are going to be available that Sunday and we will see what's what - Theme is "Taizé Chants"- Taizé is a pilgrimage site in SE France
  • 5/24 - no official choir involvement but open for someone to work up something independently if interested - Dillman is leading service - proposed theme: When Bad Things Happen - Elaine will be away - let Elaine know if interested/ideas
  • 6/14 - Volunteer Appreciation Day - planning to sing "One Voice"- so far we have been working on this by switching parts so that hopefully we will be ready for most contingencies - nothing is etched in stone yet so plenty of room for more voices to jump in at least for another few weeks
PLEASE NOTE:
Elaine will be away 5/25 (Memorial Day) - option is always open to rehearse anyway, perhaps at someone's house, we will keep mulling this over as it approaches - yell if any idea/hankerings
