Notes from rehearsal 8/25/14

We practiced turquoise hymnal #1051 ("We are/For each child that's born…") and "I am Willing." Both are for Eve's ordination the afternoon of 9/21. (Please see gcal for other dates too). (Tab at top of blog.)

For each child that's born
3 or 4 parts - still being decided. Elaine has alto copy for anyone who needs it - please email her for a pdf if you want it before next rehearsal. We made corrections to the pdf version the other day at her house.

whoa! WE sing!!!

Tully is having his first bonafide repair job - well if you count a new battery as a repair job. Actually if we're counting new elements I guess our new tires in February should really count as the first repair… or perhaps 3 years ago when he had to have a new antenna because some @$$**** student tore his original one off in a Clemson Univ. parking lot.

Ahem. :) Anyway, back to our sheep (French expression which I will gladly explain someday)...

Can't believe our last post was 4/14. I know I've been out of the loop (self-imposed, not you all! :)  but I thought I had come to a few rehearsals after the Soirée - maybe we just didn't have anything that needed notetaking…

First and foremost - welcome Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again we are very very very happy to have you! And - you are much more talented than you think, or at least than you let on that you think :)  Plus - tremendous sight-reading last night!!

Next… you all might see that we have a new name at the top - I took the liberty. We can change it anytime if we would like to think up another Super Clever name like we did with SSSHHE Sings. I just wanted to put something up now that would be more accurate in the interim.

It is far easier to leave the URL as is (with "shesings" in the address); if we would like we could always do a separate blog for our co-ed group, too. Pretty easy to set up so just say the word if so. Also even tho the name on the blog itself is changed the admin pages still say "She Sings" at the top so if you're not a She and are ever posting please do not take offense.

For the time being anything posted on the blog or calendar will need to specify whether info/pieces are for SS or for the co-ed choir. Please keep this in mind with any blogposting or calendar events (usually this is me or Elaine but just in case…)

OK I promise these will not always be this long. (yeah we've heard that before Susan…)

Not Necessarily One Bowl Chocolate Cake

In answer to various comments re the cake the other night, in case you're interested...

This recipe I got originally from eatingwell.com.

The "Not Necessarily" is mine. I have never understood why it was called "One Bowl..." :)

One Bowl Chocolate Cake

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Ingredients:

• Group 1

• 3/4 c. + 2 T. whole wheat flour

• 1/2 c. sugar

• 1/3 c. cocoa

• 1 t. baking powder

• 1 t. baking soda

• 1/4 t. salt

• Group 2

• 2 T. canola oil

• 1 t. vanilla

• 1/2 c. buttermilk or reg. milk (NOTE: I always use soy milk and it is fine; might be interesting to see how it is with the buttermilk…)

• 1 large egg, lightly beaten

• 1/2 c. hard-packed brown sugar

• 1/2 c. hot strong black coffee or boiling water (I always use coffee)

Grease 9-in round cake pan (other pan similar in size is fine). Cut parchment paper or waxed paper to fit in the bottom of the pan.

• Mix Group 1 til just blended.

• Mix Group 2 likewise (without the coffee/water) and add to Group 1. 

• Beat 2 min.

• Add coffee/water and beat to blend. Batter will be RIDICULOUSLY thin! Don't worry!

• Pour into pan and bake 30-35 minutes or until clean toothpick test.

• Cool on rack 10 minutes then remove from pan and cool rest of the way.

• Dust with confectioner's sugar or use toppings of your choice.

2014 Soiree Wrap up and Lessons Learned

We had plenty of food--  really appreciated everyone being so generous with they brought.
